Concepts

The Concepts that I used in my speeches or helped me prepare for my speeches was putting into consideration the ideas for my topic. I usually spend a lot of time doing my outline on my main points. I don't take too much time on the introduction or conclusion. I believe that the middle part of your speech is the most important part. Putting aside everything, without great main points, your speech will fall apart and you will lose your audience's focus right when you hit your second main point, even first. With putting your audience into consideration, I believe that the concept of considering your audience for your speech is key. Knowing what kind of audience you have, you can write your speech around them. I try and choose topic speeches that can relate to the audience so that their attention will be focused on me the whole time.

  1. Like you stated, I agree that it is essential to focus on a topic that everyone can relate to. This applies even more when these speeches are given during class with a captive audience. As an audience, I don’t think anyone would want to listen to something uninteresting. No one would like to feel that they have been robbed of their time. Having an interesting topic that everyone can relate to and feel strongly about such as your last speech was brilliant. Everyone was intent on listening and agreeing with many points you put forth. In short, I would like to say good job on your speech!

  2. I have to agree that choosing a topic that people can relate to is important. In fact, I made sure to mention that as a strength, if the topic had a strong connection to the audience. I don't think it especially had to be something the audience is experienced in, but rather something that has a strong connection to people outside of the class or setting.
Keeping the focus of your speech on the main points is important, even though they don't have the 'wow' factor of the introduction and the conclusion. Without any substance in your speech, I'm sure that even if you had a good feeling in your speech, it wouldn't be useful to other people.
